Temple of Philae V

from $60.00

This image was captured at dusk from the middle of the Nile River while traveling down river to see this temple at night. The near night time image captures the size and extensive construction required to build these structures. An instructor of mine back in 2001, Andrew Squires, would call this a “pull back shot”. He also taught film when he was a professor at the University of Wales.

The temple was built to honour the goddess Isis, this was the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and it was one of the last outposts where the goddess was worshipped. The cult of Isis continued here until at least AD 550.

Built during the reign of Ptolemy II (Egypt's Greco-Roman Period), the Temple of Isis at Philae is dedicated to Isis, Osiris, and Horus. The temple walls contain scenes from Egyptian mythology of Isis bringing Osiris back to life, giving birth to Horus, and mummifying Osiris after his death.

Limited edition of 12 in any available size.

Available as a fine art print on paper, or as a print on canvas. mounted and framed with a waxed matte black frame by the photographer.
